It’s understood that a suspect envelope, reportedly containing a powder substance, was discovered at the property this afternoon. The alarm was raised shortly after 5.00pm.

The incident occurred just 12 hours after President Donald Trump’s son Eric left the hotel after a brief visit. Eric Trump left the property early this morning and departed from Shannon Airport

Gardaí responded to the scene along with units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Kilkee and Kilrush stations. The National Ambulance Service was also alerted.

The Defence Forces were also requested to dispatch an Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the scene.

EOD personnel inspected the envelope and it’s believed the substance was found not to be chemical or biological. It’s now understood to have been a hoax.

All emergency services were stood down at around 10.30pm.

A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said on Wednesday night: “we are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at a premises in West Clare. There will be no further comment at this time.”
