A flight from the United States to Turkey diverted to Shannon Airport this evening to seek medical assistance for a passenger.
Turkish Airlines flight TK-4, departed New York’s JFK Airport at around 6.00pm (Irish time) bound for Istanbul. There were 282 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner jet.
When the flight was about an hour west of Ireland, the crew made contact with air traffic controllers here and advised them of their situation.
The crew had originally planned to divert to Dublin Airport however a decision was later made to reroute to Shannon instead.
Authorities at Shannon were advised of the unscheduled arrival while the National Ambulance Service was also alerted and requested to dispatch resources to the airport.
The flight landed safely at 11.12pm and was met at the terminal by ambulance paramedics and airport staff.
The passenger was assessed at the airport before being transported to hospital for treatment. The flight resumed its journey to Istanbul shortly after 1.00am.
