A transatlantic passenger flight diverted to Shannon Airport this after the crew declared a medical emergency over the North Atlantic west of Ireland.
Royal Jordanian flight RJA-283 was travelling from Washington in the United States to Amman in Jordan.
The crew made contact with air traffic controllers in Ireland reporting they had an ill passenger on board and they wished to divert to Shannon. The crew was cleared to reroute to Shannon as requested while the National Ambulance Service was advised of the diverting aircraft.
The Boeing 787-800 jet landed at Shannon at 8.07am and was met at the terminal by ambulance paramedics. The patient was assessed at the airport before being transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
The flight continued its journey to the Jordanian capital at 10.37am.
Of the around 30 unscheduled landings at Shannon Airport so far this year, seven have been medical emergencies.
