A flight that diverted to Shannon Airport this morning after declaring a medical emergency earlier, has continued its journey.
Lufthansa flight LH-403 was travelling from Newark, New Jersey in the US to Frankfurt in Germany at the time. There were 375 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 747-830 Jumbo Jet.
The flight departed Newark at around 11.30pm (Irish time) on Tuesday for its six hour 40 minute flight to Frankfurt. The flight was west of Ireland when the crew informed air traffic controllers of their situation.
The crew told controllers they had a passenger on board who was in need medical attention. Airport authorities were informed of the diverting flight while the National Ambulance Service was also contacted and requested to dispatch resources to the airport.
The flight landed at 4.59am and was met at the terminal building by airport personnel and ambulance paramedics. The ill passenger was removed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment.
A spokesperson for The Shannon Airport Group confirmed that the flight diverted to Shannon Airport due to a medical emergency onboard and that flight 403 continued its journey to Frankfurt at 6.40am.
