Four hospitalised after road collision near Ballyvaughan

Four people have been taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in North Clare this afternoon.

It’s understood that two adults, a child and an infant were travelling in car which collided with a ditch.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at Newtown on the N67 Ballyvaughan to Lisdoonvarna road at around 2.30pm.

The National Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances and a paramedic response unit to the scene. Gardaí and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennistymon station were also mobilised to the incident.

On arrival, emergency services found that a vehicle with a number of occupants had collided with a ditch and had suffered extensive damage.

It’s understood that the child and infant were unhurt while the two adults suffered minor injuries. All four were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The HSE’s Cork-based air ambulance, Aeromed 01 which had been attending an incident in Limerick, was retasked and dispatched to the scene in North Clare. Once it was confirmed that no one had been seriously injured, the helicopter was stood down.

The N67, which had been closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, has fully reopened.
