A Clare Civil Defence volunteer has been recognised for her dedicated service.
Blue McDonnell from Ennis has been awarded a Gold Volunteer Award at the University of Limerick Presidential Awards for her volunteer work with Clare Civil Defence.
As a direct result of Blue’s volunteerism with Clare Civil Defence she applied for and was accepted on the Undergraduate Paramedic Degree Course in UL as a mature student. Currently, Blue is in Liverpool on a 12-month placement with the NHS Ambulance Service as part of her training.
Blue spent 20 years working in the US where she also volunteered and when she returned to Ireland, joined Clare Civil Defence. Now studying for her degree in paramedic studies in UL, Blue says the experience and training she has received with Clare Civil Defence was invaluable to her when applying for her college course.

Last year, volunteer Orlaith Lyons was honoured with at NUIG for her services to Clare Civil Defence. Orlaith is currently in her third year of Speech and Language Therapy.
Clare Civil Defence Officer Noel Carmody said: “Both Blue and Orlaith are extremely well deserving of their awards as they have given a huge commitment to us. Clare Civil Defence is dependent on volunteers like Blue and Orlaith and like all our members, are an important part of the organisation.”

Clare Civil Defence has a membership over over 140 registered members.
