Poor weather prevented the crew of an Irish Coast Guard helicopter from airlifting an injured walker to hospital this afternoon.
The crew of Rescue 115 had been requested to assist after the man was injured in a fall on a walking trail at the Cliffs of Moher.
The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was requested to respond to the incident at around 4.00pm after the man was reported to be in an area not accessible by land vehicles.
Volunteers quickly located the casualty but reported that it would take some time for ambulance paramedics to reach the area on foot. With darkness falling, the Shannon based Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter was requested to assist.
On arrival at the scene, the helicopter crew found that it was not safe to land in the area and had abandon the mission. The casualty was transported across several fields to the road where an ambulance was waiting.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment.
