A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was injured in an accident while working on a tree this afternoon.
The alarm was raised shortly after 5.00pm when emergency services received a report of an accident near Ballynacally in the south of the county.
The National Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and rapid response advanced paramedic unit to the scene while Clare County Fire and Rescue Service also mobilised resources. Gardaà also attended the incident.
Several people, who ran to the man’s aid, assisted paramedics pulling the man partially clear of the tree so they could assess the casualty. Fire crews made a second tree safe so medics could treat the patient.
The HSE’s Cork-based Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance – Aeromed-01 – was also tasked to the incident and was able to land in a field adjacent to the scene.
Fire crews assisted paramedics with packaging the patient for transport and carrying the stretcher to the waiting helicopter.
The man was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for further treatment. It’s understood he sustained serious injuries.
