A man has been airlifted to hospital after he fell about 15 metres from a cliff in Lahinch.
It’s the second time in just six days that a person has had to be rescued from the base of the same cliff on the Miltown Malbay road on the outskirts of the town.
The alarm was raised at around 7.45 this evening where emergency services were alerted to the incident the circumstances of which are not yet clear.
Units of the fire brigade and an ambulance from Ennistymon were sent to the scene while a rapid response advanced paramedic unit responded from Ennis.
The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard and the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter were also tasked.
The injured man was winched on board the helicopter shortly before 9.00pm and was flown to Galway University Hospital for treatment.
This evening’s incident happened in the same placed where a 23-year-old man fell into the sea last Sunday morning. He was airlifted to hospital after being pulled from the water by one of his friends.
It’s believed that fact the tide in the area was high at the time saved the man from crashing onto rocks.
