Coast Guard volunteers assisted paramedics with recovering the man from the scene and transporting him several hundred metres along the shore to an ambulance.

While the incident occurred in daylight it was after dark before the man was removed from the scene to hospital.

He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick with a suspected dislocated knee.
