Man killed in Limerick motorway collision

A man died in a road traffic collision in Limerick this morning.

The single vehicle collision happened at around 10.00am in the hard shoulder of the M7 motorway between junctions 28 and 29 a short distance from the Castletroy exit.

Three units of the fire brigade from Limerick City were first to arrived on the scene where the found a black Renault car perched on top of a crash barrier.

Ambulance paramedics also responded to the incident however it was confirmed that the sole occupant, a man in his early 30’s, had died in the collision.

The motorway was closed while the scene was preserved to facilitate a Forensic Collision Investigation.

Diversions were put in place while traffic that had build up behind the collision, were turned around and sent the wrong way along the motorway so that they could exit at the Ballysimon interchange.
