On arrival, fire crews found a fire had taken hold in both downstairs and upstairs areas of the semi-detached home.

It’s understood that the sole occupant of the property was helped to safety by neighbours who cared for the man until emergency services arrived.

Fire service personnel wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to ensure there were no other persons inside while other firefighters set about tackling the blaze.

The occupants of an adjoining property were evacuated from their home after it was affected by smoke. They were also cared for by neighbours.

Fire crews soon brought the blaze under control while paramedics assessed the occupant. The man was later transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. It’s understood this was just as a precaution.

Fire crews then used a specialist fan to ventilate both the neighbouring home of smoke before the occupants could return.
