One person has been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in North Clare this afternoon.
The incident, which involved a car and a motorcycle, occurred around 1.30pm on the R460 Gort to Corofin Road at Killourney near Tubber close to the Clare border with Galway.
Emergency services from both counties responded to the scene.
Gardaí attended the incident while the National Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and an advanced paramedic response vehicle. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station and Galway Fire and Rescue Service crews based in Gort also responded to the scene.
The HSE’s Cork-based Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance, Aeromed-01, was also requested to attend the incident.
It’s understood that the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries but non-life threatening injuries in the collision while the driver of the car escaped unhurt.
The male casualty, in his 40s, was assessed and treated at the scene before being transferred to the helicopter which was able to land close by.
He was later airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
The road was closed for a technical examination, but has since reopened.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 12:00pm and 12:40pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
