Motorcyclist hospitalised following West Clare collision

A motorcyclist has been hospitalised following a road traffic collision in West Clare this afternoon.

The crash, which involved a car and a motorcycle, occurred at around 3.50pm at Kilclogher North on the Kilbaha to Carrigaholt coast road on the Loop Head Peninsula.

The National Ambulance Service dispatched two three resources to the scene including a rapid response vehicle. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Kilkee and Kilrush stations were also mobilised along with Gardaí.

The HSE’s Cork-based Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance was also tasked and landed in a field close to the scene.

After the injured motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was assessed and treated at the scene it was decided the casualty could travelled by road to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The motorcycle’s pillion passenger was also assessed at the scene.

It’s understood the pair were part of a group that had been touring the county.

The road was fully reopened shortly before 6.00pm.
