Motorist hospitalised following single vehicle collision

One person has been taken to hospital following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in the county this morning.

The crash occurred at around 10.15am near Ballinruan. A car is understood to have collided with a ditch and overturned onto its side on the L4000 Crusheen to Ballinruan road.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to the incident along with the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí. Galway Fire and Rescue Service was also requested to send resources with crews being dispatched from Gort station.

The HSE’s Athlone based air ambulance, ‘Air Corps 112’, was also requested to attend the incident.

Fire crews used specialist cutting equipment to cut the roof away so the driver could be safely removed from the vehicle. Once it was established that she had not been seriously injured, the air ambulance was stood down.

The woman was assessed at the scene by paramedics and later removed by ambulance to hospital for further examination.

The road has since been reopened.
