Both animals died in the impact while the man’s car was extensively damaged. The driver and sole occupant of the car managed to escape from the vehicle unhurt and raise the alarm.

Two units of the fire brigade from Ennistymon along with an ambulance and Gardaí were sent to the scene.

On arrival, fire crews found that the driver was out of his vehicle while the two animals lay dead on the road. The road was closed for a time while fire crews worked to clear the road and hose down the area after the animals had been removed.

It’s understood the animals had strayed onto the road from local lands and that owner has been identified and contacted.

Gardaí from Ennistymon station are investigating the incident.
