Two people have been taken to hospital following a road traffic collision on the Ennis to Miltown Malbay road this evening.
The alarm was raised at around 9.30pm when emergency services received reports that a vehicle had left the road between Kilmaley and Connolly.
The collision occurred on a bad bend on the R474 near Bealcragga. It’s understood that there were four people travelling in the car when it left the road and crashed into an embankment.
Two elderly occupants were reported to have been left trapped in their car after the collision.
A number of passing motorists stopped at the scene to see if they could help in any way. It’s understood one of those was a doctor.
Gardaí and National Ambulance Service paramedics responded to the incident along with units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station.
Two occupants, believed to be in their 80s, were safely helped from the car and handed into the care of ambulance paramedics. They were both transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. It’s believed their injuries are not serious.
The road was closed for a time while emergency crews dealt with the incident.
