
The Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter has completed a medevac (medical evacuation) operation off the west coast this morning.
Rescue 115 was called to airlift a fisherman from a fishing vessel 120 nautical miles (222 kilometres) west of Loop Head.

The casualty was transferred to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
Medical advice for the operation was provided to the Coast Guard by ‘MEDICIO Cork’ based in Cork University Hospital A&E section.
Meanwhile, the Waterford based helicopter, Rescue 117, was involved in a similar operation this morning.
