Update:
6.15pm – Kilkee, Ennis, Limerick, Lough Derg and Burren sub aqua clubs carried out dives in the search area this morning and again this afternoon. A total of 29 volunteers including 19 divers, boat crew and shore marshals were involved.
Divers from the Garda Water Unit joined the search this afternoon. Relatives of the missing man also visited the scene where Coast Guard volunteers continued with shore searches.
Earlier: The search will resume this morning for a man feared drowned after being swept off rocks near Doonbeg early yesterday.
The man had been fishing at the notorious Blue Pool between Kilkee and Doonbeg when the accident happened. It’s understood he was washed off the rock by a rogue wave.
The Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, spent most of the morning conducting an air search for the missing man.
Members of the Kilkee and Doolin units of the Coast Guard along with Gardaí were also involved. A Coast Guard boat conducted a surface search while other personnel undertook visual searches from the cliffs.
Members of Kilkee Sub Aqua Club conducted a dive in the area in the afternoon however poor visibility below the surface hindered their efforts.
The missing man in understood to be a Russian national in his 40’s who had been living in the Limerick area. Another man who was with him at the time, is understood that have tried to rescue him without success.
A number of dive clubs who were due in Kilkee today for an event, are also expected to join the search effort today.
