A fire that broke out in the storage yard of a supermarket in Sixmilebridge last night was not malicious.
Fire crews spent over three hours dealing with the incident which involved several gas cylinders.
The blaze broke occurred behind the Centra supermarket in the town at around 11.00pm. The shop is owned by former Mayor of Clare Councillor John Crowe.
Two units of the fire brigade from Shannon and gardaí attended the incident. The bridge in the town was closed to traffic while firefighters dealt with the fire.
Fire crews had to spray thousands of litres of water on the gas cylinders to cool them down while other firefighters tackled the main blaze.
No one was injured in the incident and the main shop building was not affected. Mr Crowe confirmed he is satisfied the fire started accidentally.
