A truck driver has been taken to hospital following a road traffic collision that closed the M18 in Co Clare this afternoon.
The incident, which involved an articulated lorry, occurred at around 1.40pm northbound between junction 10 (Newmarket on Fergus) and junction 11 (Dromoland).
The truck is understood to have jack-knifed and was left lying across the northbound carriageway.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon and Ennis stations responded to the incident along with multiple Garda units and National Ambulance Service paramedics.
Firefighters and paramedics helped the driver from the cab. He was assessed at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. It’s understood he was not seriously injured.
Gardaí quickly closed the motorway northbound at junction 10 diverting traffic onto the old road through Newmarket on Fergus.
The motorway was reopened shortly before 4.00pm after the truck and trailer had been recovered from the scene and the traffic lanes cleared of debris.
