Earlier: Two men have been airlifted to hospital following an incident  at a house in East Clare this evening.

The fire was reported shortly before 6.00pm at Knockroe near Meelick. It’s believed the incident involved flammable liquid and resulted in a man in his late 80s sustaining very serious injuries while another man, in his 40s, was also hurt.

Although the incident occurred in Co Clare, the area is covered by Limerick Fire Service. Four units of the fire brigade from the city responded along with ambulance paramedics and gardaí.

The Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance and the Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, attended the incident and landed in fields close to the scene. There was a doctor on board the Air Corps helicopter in addition to the usual crew complement
