At 8.15 this evening, a member of the public called the Irish Coast Guard via the 999/112 emergency call answering service (ECAS) reporting a speed boat in apparent difficulty close to Parkers Point on Lough Derg.

Staff at the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue sub centre (MRSC) at Valentia in Co Kerry alerted the Killaloe Coast Guard and requested the team to mobilise.

As the unit responded to the incident a second call was made to Valentia confirming that the boat had started moving again and that all was ok. The team was stood and returned to base.

The call is being treated as a false alarm with good intent.

Earlier, at around 4.30pm, the team was requested to assist the National Ambulance Service with a call in Co Tipperary.

Volunteers responded to the ‘ambulance assist’ call at a bicycle track near Borrisokane.

It’s understood one person was injured in an incident there. The casualty was removed to hospital by ambulance.
