Two ambulances and a rapid response advanced paramedic unit and gardaí initially responded to the collision.

Three units of the fire brigade from Ennis reached the scene within minutes as they had just finished another call at the time.

The drivers of both vehicles were by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where they were being treated last night. Their injuries are said to be “not serious”.

Traffic was diverted away from the scene while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

The vehicles came to a stop on opposite sides of the busy junction following the collision.

Gardaí from Ennis are investigating the collision including the possibility that the male driver of one car may have been dazed by the evening sun.
