
Two people have been taken to hospital following a road traffic collision near Kilrush this afternoon.
The two-car incident happened at around 3:15 on the N68 Ennis to Kikrush road at Knockerra Cross.
Three units of the fire and Gardaí from Kilrush responded to the call along with two ambulances and a rapid response advanced paramedic unit from Ennis.
It’s understood that a rental car travelling from Cooraclare to catch the Shannon ferry at Killimer collided with a car at the junction.
While the tourists were unhurt, fire crews had to cut the doors off the other vehicle so the injured could be safely removed.

Two people have been taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment however their injuries are not believed to be serious.
The N68 was closed for a time while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Gardaí from Kilrush are investigating the collision.
