Two injured in separate falls on cliff trail

Two people are recovering in hospital following separate accidents at the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare today.

The women sustained injuries after falling on the popular cliff trail.

At around 10.00am, emergency services were alerted to an incident involving an Italian visitor who suffered a serious leg injury after a fall.

The Doolin unit of the volunteer service was alerted while a HSE ambulance and rapid response advanced paramedic unit were also sent to the scene.

The woman was located and treated at the scene by Coast Guard first responders before she has taken into care the paramedics. She was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

Soon after rescue teams had returned to their base, they were called out to a similar incident.

An Australian woman was reported to have been injured in a fall on the popular cliff trail. Coast Guard crews and HSE paramedics were again dispatched to the scene.

Both casualties were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
