A flight that diverted to Dublin Airport yesterday and continued its journey to the United States this afternoon, has been forced to divert again, this time to Shannon Airport.
On Saturday, United Airlines flight UA-117 was travelling from Athens in Greece to Newark in the US state of New Jersey when the Boeing 767-322(ER) jet diverted to Dublin.
It’s understood the flight diverted due to a technical issue. The flight was met by airport fire crews on arrival.
The same aircraft departed Dublin this evening shortly after 5.00pm as flight UA-3909 destined for Newark. It’s understood that there no passengers on board and just a crew of ten.
The flight was almost two hours into its journey when the crew made a U-turn over the North Atlantic and diverted to Shannon Airport. The flight landed safely at 9.58pm and was met by airport’s fire and rescue service. The aircraft was directed to a remote parking stand.
It’s understood that an issue, possibly associated with a cockpit window, may have reoccurred.
On Thursday, another United Boeing 767-322(ER) diverted to Shannon after the crew reported a possible fuel leak and that they had shut down one of their jet’s two engines.
United Airlines flight UA-331 was travelling from Paris, France to Washington in the US. The flight landed safely at Shannon about 40 minutes after turning back over the Atlantic. Fire crews from Shannon, Ennis and Limerick City and National Ambulance Service resources had been mobilised to the airport ahead of the jet’s arrival.
The flight resumed its journey to Washington on Friday afternoon.
