Woman airlifted to hospital following crash

A young woman has been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in Co Clare this afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 3.00pm on the main N67 Ennistymon to Lahinch.

Fire crews from nearby Ennistymon used specialist cutting equipment to cut one of the occupants from the car.

While the driver escaped injury, fire crews worked alongside paramedics to safely remove the injured passenger from the car.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 4×4, also escaped injury.

The Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance, based in Athlone, was requested to airlift the woman to hospital.

The casualty was flown to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
