A woman in her late 50s has died following a single-vehicle crash in west Clare.
The incident happened at about 11pm at Shanaway West near Miltown Malbay.
The woman’s silver Volkswagen car left the road and overturned into a field. The victim, understood to be from Quilty, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out.
The road at the scene is closed pending the arrival of forensic collision investigators, who will carry out an examination of the crash site.
Gardaí from Ennistymon are investigating the tragedy.
The incident is the second fatal collision in Co Clare this year.
On May 31st last, a Polish man died after the car in which he was travelling pulled out onto a main road into the path of a motorcyclist. The incident happened at Doonagore near Doolin.
The front seat passenger of the car died at the scene while the motorcyclist, a retired member of An Garda Síochána, was seriously injured.
