A woman had lucky escape early on Saturday after she woke to find her kitchen ablaze and her home filled with smoke.
The fire broke out at the house in Gort Na hAbhna in Ennis after the woman had arrived home from work at around 1.30am. It’s understood she put on a pan of oil to make chips before lying down for a few minutes.
A short time later the woman woke to find the room filled with smoke and her kitchen well alight.
While the woman managed to escape through the smoke-filled house by a back side door, she was left suffering from smoke inhalation.
An ambulance from Ennis arrived at the scene within minutes and was soon followed by three units of the local fire brigade.
Ambulance paramedics quickly located the woman and treated her for smoke inhalation while fire crews forced in the front door of the property to battle the blaze and check there was no one else inside.
It’s understood that the woman’s young child was staying with neighbours as she was working late. There was no one else in the house at the time.
The kitchen of the end-of-terrace home was destroyed in the fire while the rest of the house was extensively damaged by smoke and left uninhabitable.
The woman was assessed by paramedics but did not require hospitalisation. It’s understood she was able to stay with friends afterwards.
