Woman injured in gas canister explosion

A woman is recovering in hospital after she was injured when a gas canister exploded in Co Clare this morning.

The woman sustained burns to her face and legs in the accident that happened at around 11.25am at a campsite in Doolin.

It’s understood that a small gas cylinder exploded however there was no fire.

A unit of Ennistymon Fire and Rescue Service was requested to respond to the incident by the National Ambulance Service as there was no ambulance in the area at the time.

Fire service emergency first responder (EFR’s) treated the woman until an ambulance arrived.

The woman was taken into care by ambulance paramedics and treated at the scene.

She was later removed to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment. The woman’s injuries are not believed to be serious.
