The son of US President Donald Trump has returned to the US after hosting several meetings at his family’s five star resort in west Clare.
After arriving on Tuesday in Doonbeg on Tuesday on board one of the Trump Organisation’s UK based helicopters, Eric Trump flew back to the US this afternoon on a commercial flight.
Mr Trump (33) had been visiting Trump International Golf Links and Hotel, which his father acquired in 2014 for €8.7m, for a series of meetings including discussions on the future of the facility and an ongoing planning process surrounding proposed coastal protection works at the property.
Mr Trump said he expects there to be a ‘positive result’ to the company’s planning application to construct erosion defences to protect the golf course from further destruction after the storms of 2014 and 2015 caused extensive.
Speaking to Clare FM radio, Eric Trump also expressed the hope that his father would visit Ireland at some stage during his Presidency. “If he is able to make it here, it would be great to have him,” he said.
After spending two nights in Doonbeg, Mr Trump was due to return to Shannon Airport early today however those plans were changed because his flight was delayed.
The inbound United flight UA-25 arrived in Shannon several hours behind schedule so Mr Trump’s cavalcade didn’t leave Doonbeg until shortly after 11am.
Six Garda motorcycle outriders stopped traffic at junctions to allow the six vehicle cavalcade unhindered passage.
United flight UA-24 eventually departed Shannon for Newark, New Jersey at 1.27pm.
