A GAA player has been airlifted to hospital after suffering an injury during a training session in West Clare this evening.
The incident occurred at the Naomh Eoin ground in Cross on the Loop Head Peninsula at around 8.00pm. It’s understood that the player suffered a lower leg injury.
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) was alerted however, an off-duty NAS paramedic who as the scene assessed and treated the injured player initially.
The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter was tasked to the incident in an air ambulance role. It’s understood that there was no ambulance available locally at the time.
Medevac-115 had just returned to Shannon Airport after completing another tasking earlier in Co Limerick. The helicopter had no sooner landed at Shannon when the crew was retasked to the incident in Cross.
The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard dispatched members to the scene to secure a safe landing area for the helicopter.
The casualty was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment however their injury is not believed to be serious.
