Ireland’s oldest person has passed away in her 109th year.
Nora Canavan, nee Mullins, was born in Monreel, Ennistymon on March 9th, 1908.
She lived most of her life in Doolin and officially became the oldest person earlier this year following the death of 109-year-old Molly Madden from Mayo.
Nora was pre-deceased by her husband Stephen, who she married in 1920, and the couple had seven children.
Nora featured in several newspaper reports in recent years and was described as a family woman who liked crochet and gardening. She also enjoyed traditional music, had a strong faith, and said that hard work was the secret of a long life.
Her life was documented Cuimhneamh an Chláir by and Nora told Frances Madigan in 2014 that she attributed her long life to hard work and to her taking an interest in everything.
Award-winning Clare Champion photographer John Kelly spoke with Nora on her 107th birthday.
