Dear Editor,
My name is Nathan Staniforth, I am a Sheffield (England) native currently living in Texas, USA. Over the past few years I have been working on a One-Surname-Project on the Staniforth Surname which was, and is still prevalent in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the surrounding counties.
I have now begun to put my piles and piles of research together in the form of a website which I have developed and built from the ground up.
Over the course of my research I have discovered many interesting stories, the Staniforths were Lord Mayors of Liverpool, London Bankers, Irish Lighthouse keepers, Members of Parliament in Hull, London and Australia and even Clowns in Texas! Most importantly we were involved in the smithing of Sickles, Scythes and Cutlery in Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
I was featured in the Sheffield Star last year regarding my research and was interviewed on BBC Radio Sheffield shortly after. I was also featured in a small local newspaper in the west of Ireland regarding my research on the local Lighthouse keepers.
I wanted to reach out and see if you would be willing to write up a story regarding my new Staniforth Society website in the hopes that any Staniforth’s in the local area might see it and reach out, I have already linked up Staniforths from the US, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and many parts of the UK and my ‘World Tree’ now contains over 3,000 people across various lines.
One man in particular was involved in an ambush during the Fenian Rebellions in the 1800s, he was based in Carrigaholt, Clare and the ambush today is known as the Kilbaha Ambush.
This mans descendants where known lighthouse keepers across Ireland particularly connected to Valentia Island there in Kerry. This is the particular line I would like to do a story on if possible.
