Murphy & Higgins to launch Clare branch of AAA

AAA-sidebarRepealing the eighth amendment, housing, worker’s rights, mental health, rural services and youth unemployment are some of the topics that Clare’s newest political organisation will aim to tackle.

Paul Murphy T.D. and former Socialist party politician Joe Higgins will attend as guest speakers at launch of The Anti Austerity Alliance’s Clare branch on Thursday evening.

“The suspension of water charges by the new Government can be accredited to the organised boycott which took place. Their hand was forced, which is a huge achievement to the anti water charges movement. Other victories can be won in this way on issues such as housing, worker’s rights and repealing the 8th Amendment” said Mary Lehane, a AAA member from Shannon.

Alan Casey, of the Clare AAA is confident there is a place for this party in the political sphere. “A new political force is required to ensure the recovery is felt by everyone, not just a small proportion of the population. This political alternative should be a grassroots, people powered movement. The Anti Austerity Alliance which emerged from the campaign against household and property tax believes a fair recovery will only take place if those in Government are put under huge pressure by such an organised movement”.

Casey highlighted what issues the AAA will fight for in Clare. “County Clare has huge problems with issues such as mental health, youth unemployment, housing and rural services being withdrawn. The Clare branch of the AAA will be committed to campaigning on these and other issues which affect ordinary people. All those interested in change are welcome to attend”.

The launch takes place at The Auburn Lodge at 7:30pm.
