The Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic and Ennis Tidy Towns are among six Clare organisations named as County winners in the first ever National Lottery Good Causes Awards.
The awards honour the inspiring work of thousands of projects, clubs and individuals all over Ireland with the help of Good Causes funding. Nearly 30 cent of every euro spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes, which has a big impact on communities across the country.
Announcing the Clare winners. National Lottery CEO, Dermot Griffin, said: “We were bowled over by the calibre of entries and the impact that these organisations are having in their local communities. We know that these groups are doing extraordinary things and the Good Causes awards recognise and celebrate their achievements.”
The Clare County winners are:
Sport
Eire Óg is a thriving, progressive, GAA club with more than 650 active members catering for Gaelic Football, Hurling, Camogie and Ladies Football. Good Causes funding allowed for the construction of a Ball Wall as part of its existing flood-lit Astro Turf pitch.
Health & Wellbeing
The Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic provides free therapy and specialist treatment services to over 450 Children with special needs throughout Clare. Good Causes funding has allowed it run week-long summer camps for teenagers with special needs
Heritage
Ennis Tidy Towns is a voluntary group which strives to make Ennis Town a better place to live, work and visit. Good Causes funding helped develop a community led biodiversity plan “Wild about Ennis” aimed at making the town more environmentally friendly.
Arts & Culture
glór prides itself on being the beating heart for the arts in Clare, presenting over 350 cultural events, performances and exhibitions every year. Good Causes funding has allowed it programme exciting, innovative work and to bring it to a wider audience.
Community
The Irish Red Cross Society in Clare is making a huge difference to people lives bringing them hospital and medical appointments in the county and all over Ireland. Good Causes funding allowed it buy a 15-seater multi-purpose support vehicle with a motorized lift to suit a varied of mobility needs
Youth
Tulla Scouts is an important community outlet where young people aged between 6 and 16 years can develop skills outside of sport. Good Causes funding allowed it to renovate a disused shed for storage for the group.
These winners will represent Clare in the West Regional finals, competing for a place in the National Finals in Dublin on November 3rd.
