On the advice of the Health Service Executive (HSE), Clare County Council has issued a public bathing advisory at Kilkee.
The Council have introduced the advisory following a recommendation from the HSE after elevated levels of microbiological contamination were recorded in a routine bathing water sample in Kilkee.

The Local Authority says monitoring is ongoing and efforts are underway to identify the bacteria source and advisory could be lifted as early as tomorrow (Thursday).
In the meantime, bathers are urged not to swim in the sea at Kilkee due to the increase in the levels of bacteria found in the bathing waters. Further updates will be issued where necessary from Clare County Council.
