Irish Water is working with Clare County Council to manage a number of water supplies across the county which are under pressure due to the drought conditions.
As a result of the prolonged dry weather conditions there has been unprecedented demand on water sources and the water supply network. In order to protect future supply for homes and businesses and re-distribute water supplies, water pressure management measures will be put in place in some areas of North Clare from today and continue through the week.
A spokesman for Irish Water said: “We would like to thank the people of Clare for their efforts to conserve water to date. It is important that we all continue to be responsible in the use of water. As a result of the unprecedented dry spell, it will take sustained rainfall over many weeks and even months to replenish raw water levels in rivers, lakes and groundwater sources and treated drinking water levels in our storage reservoirs.”
North Clare
Water pressure management measures will take place from today and continue through the week, in Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna, Doolin, Liscannor, Ballyvaughan, Kilfenora and surrounding Group Water Supply schemes.
While we will be managing the network continuously to minimise the impact on customers, some customers in these areas may notice reduced pressure in their taps as a result of these measures. It is intended to maintain adequate pressure to fill attic tanks and maintain a supply to all customers. However if any customers are being adversely affected we are asking them to call the Irish Water Customer Care line on 1850 278 278 and this will allow us to identify any areas where an undue impact is being felt.
These pressure management measures will replace the night-time water shut-offs which have been in place in these areas during recent weeks.
Elsewhere, tankering will continue in Fanore and Carron to augment water supply to the reservoirs.
It is anticipated that these measures will continue for a number of weeks to replenish reservoir reserves in north Co Clare. Water Conservation measures may be extended to other areas as required.
East Clare
In Tulla, water restrictions will continue from 10pm to 6am through the week. This restriction is required to conserve the bore-hole supply servicing Tulla and surrounding areas.
Tankering has commenced in Broadford to augment water supply to the reservoirs.
It is anticipated that these restrictions will continue for a number of weeks and other restrictions may come into effect in other locations throughout the county while the current drought persists.
Everyone can continue to play their part to reduce demand by conserving water at home and in their businesses, and reporting any leaks they see in the public network by calling 1850 278 278 or on the Irish Water website.
