An influx in the use of Quin as a cycling destination has prompted a proposal seeking the introduction of VMS signs.
Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy, a native of the village wants to see electronic traffic signs “installed at an appropriate location on the Ennis road into Quin, to ensure safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists”.
Senior Executive Engineer with Clare County Council, Eamon O’Dea informed Colleran Molloy that a series of traffic speed surveys on the R469 on the approaches to Quin Village will be undertaken “to confirm whether additional means of speed controls or traffic calming are required. The outcome of the traffic speed surveys will be forwarded to the Garda Traffic Corps”.
Funding of such work will be through a low cost safety scheme or by discretionary maintenance grants from the Department of Transport, according to O’Dea.
“Quin is becoming a very popular place for the cyclists of our county to go through”, Colleran Molloy said. The Fianna Fáil councillor acknowledged that completing the study would be good for the village and asked that Quin be put on the radar for the Active Ennis scheme. Her motion was seconded by Cllr Ann Norton.
