Concerns have been expressed about road safety issues on the Lahinch road out of Ennis.
Locals have highlighted “some pressing concerns” regarding traffic safety within their community on the Lahinch Road in Ennis.
Local Rob O’Halloran said: “As a resident who deeply cares about the well-being of our neighbourhood, I believe it is imperative that we address these issues to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors.
Over the past few months, I have observed several alarming incidents that have raised serious concerns about the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.”
Some of the issues highlighted by Mr O’Halloran and which he says require immediate attention include speeding, the lack of crosswalks and pedestrian signls.
“There has been a noticeable increase in speeding vehicles on the Lahinch Road. This reckless behaviour not only endangers pedestrians and cyclists but also poses a significant risk to other motorists. A number of times the Gardaí were parked up and it was so noticeable the difference in driving behaviour with regards to speed.
There are no footpaths after Donellan’s shop and considering that the Lahinch Road is possibly one of the busiest roads in the county as it is the main road to the Cliffs of Moher, it is extremely dangerous for people who choose to take the green option of walking to the nearest shop but do so at risk. There is not one pedestrian crossing that has any lighting on the road and again near Donellan’s shop the crossing there is lethal as you are hoping traffic will slow down which many fail to do, a lack adequate signage, crosswalks, and pedestrian signals, make it extremely hazardous for pedestrians to navigate these areas safely.”
Mr O’Halloran added: “Several areas within our community suffer from poor visibility due to inadequate street lighting or overgrown vegetation, further exacerbating the risk of accidents, especially during the evening hours.
With local elections coming up I would hope that the council members might take seriously the issues highlighted about and work with the community to develop a plan to improve the road safety measures on the Lahinch Road,” he added.
