The search has resumed for a man believed to be a high profile professional feared to have fallen into the sea in Co Clare.
Since the alarm was raised on Friday, search teams have been concentrating their efforts around the Cliffs of Moher where the man’s car was first spotted on Thursday.
It’s believed that the missing man is a well known ‘professional’ gentleman from the Dublin area. Although not confirmed, the man is understood to be a member of the legal profession and in his 60’s.
The alarm was raised early on Friday when staff arriving to work at the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre found that that a vehicle they had noticed the previous night was still parked in the same location.
Authorities at the cliffs alerted Gardaí who commenced inquiries in an effort to establish more about the car owner and his movements.
Members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard have been carrying water and shore based searches and have been assisted by the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter.
A search took place earlier today and will resume later this evening.
