After the helicopter crew spotted something in water on Tuesday, the Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat was tasked along with the Doolin Coast Guard boat and requested to carry out a search of the area. Nothing was found.

Rescue 115 returned to the scene on Sunday afternoon and carried out a comprehensive search from Doolin along the coastline south to Hags Head and towards Liscannor and then south towards Spanish Point.

The helicopter crew carried out a further search on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, no trace has been found of a woman reported missing at the Cliffs of Moher late last month.

Weather conditions in the area had hampered the original search.
