Shannon needs to get same treatment as Dublin

Shannon Group’s CEO has said that the launch of a national consultation for preparing a planning and development framework for the nation will be critical to the future development of our country.

Responding to this week’s launch by Taoiseach, Enda Kenny and Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government Simon Coveney, Matthew Thomas said: “We wholeheartedly welcome this process which will provide the roadmap for the future development of the whole of our country. It is important that we have a plan not just for the continued growth of Dublin but also one that will enable the regions and cities outside the capital to achieve their full potential.

“The national consultation will provide the forum for discussing the infrastructure the regions will require in order to develop and deliver a more balanced economy across the island of Ireland. We need a plan which is developed through incredibly close co-operation regionally and nationally. Shannon Group is one of the single biggest catalysts for growth on the entire western seaboard and looks forward to contributing positively and constructively to this discussion.”

Mr Thomas concluded, “All parts of the Shannon Group are committed to leading the development of the west coast, none more so than Shannon Airport. The importance of direct air connectivity to deliver foreign direct investment cannot be understated which will be crucial for the development of the regional economy. We look forward to working with all of the stakeholders to create a vision and a robust plan for the development of Shannon and the wider region we serve.”
