Tributes have been paid to the late Nora Canavan who died this week.
Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway expressed his sadness at the passing of the Doolin woman. “She was a family woman, who liked crochet and gardening and knitted up until last year. Nora had a very strong faith and believed that hard work was the secret to a long life. She also loved traditional Irish music, which Doolin is renowned for. I would like to pay tribute to Nora who lived a long and fulfilling life and extend my deepest sympathies to her family and large circle of friends and neighbours.”
Fr Conor Cunningham, Parish Priest of Lisdoonvarna remarked on her faith and dedication to God. “Nora was full of gratitude to God for her many years of faith, family, and friendship,” he said. “She was a Christian lady of exemplary fidelity in following Jesus and was an outstandingly supportive and encouraging parishioner.”
Nora became Ireland’s oldest citizen earlier this year following the passing of Mayo woman Molly Madden who was 109. Nora was pre-deceased by her husband Stephen, who she married in 1920, and the couple had seven children.
Her funeral took place at Doolin Church this afternoon and she was buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Doolin.
