Uisce Éireann is working to restore water to impacted customers in North Clare following a large burst to a water main.
Customers in Liscannor and as far south as Quilty have been complaining very poor water quality since early today. Tap water is said to have suffered severe discolouration.
Uisce Éireann says dedicated water service crews are carrying out repairs to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible. Customers in Lahinch, Liscannor and Ennisytmon and surrounding areas may experience discolouration, low water pressure and/or water outages for the rest of the day while repair works are underway.
As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes.
Uisce Éireann’s Darragh Conneely said: “We understand the inconvenience this is causing and are currently working to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible. Once normal operations are restored, it will take time for the network to refill and normal supply to return to all customers. We are also asking the public to do what they can to conserve water during this time by turning off taps and checking for leaks in outside taps or unoccupied premises.”
Following a water outage, occasionally issues such as cloudy water (air bubbles), discolouration or internal airlocks may arise. For advice on how to resolve these issues, please visit www.water.ie/help/supply/after-an-outage/.
