Caution urged as winds continue to pound Clare coast

Extensive flooding reported again today on the N85 Ennis to Ennistymon at several locations.

Flooding and surface water reported on the N67 Ballyvaughan to Lisdoovarna road and on the road from Lemenagh Castle to Ballyvaughan.

Caution is urged.

Saturday, 3.01pm

Flooding has been reported on the main Ennis to Lahinch road at Kilnamona.

Flooding and surface water reported on Liscannor to Doolin road at several locations.

Earlier: Met Éireann has issued two weather warnings for Clare this weekend with another taking effect as the first ends.

The first low level Status Yellow – Wind and Rain warning, which will affect Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo and Wexford, will come into effect at 2.00am on Saturday and remain in place until 11.00pm (Saturday).

The expected poor weather is associated with a severe weather system name Geraldine by French meteorologists.

Southwest winds will be strong and gusty at times coupled with heavy rain and thundery showers.

Forecasters say the potential impacts include.

• Surface flooding
• Wave overtopping
• Loose debris, objects displaced
• Difficult travelling conditions

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow – Wind warning has also been issued for Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

Westerly winds will veer northwesterly will be strong and gusty at times.

Potential Impacts include:

• Waving overtopping

This alert will take effect at 11.00pm on Saturday and remain in place until 5.00pm on Sunday.
