Further wind warning issued for tonight

Met Éireann has issued a further wind warning for tonight.

Forecasters say we can expect strong and gusty southwest or west winds.

The warning will take effect at 2.00am (Friday) and remain in place until 6.00am.

  • Wave overtopping

Flights at Shannon Airport are operating to schedule however flights have already diverted to Shannon because of high winds at Dublin and Cork Airports.

Wind gusts at Dublin Airport are reported at upto 80kmh while in Cork, gusts up to almost 90kmh.

Aer Lingus flight EI-86 from Cleveland (US) to Dublin; Ryanair flight FR-527 from Tenerife to Cork; FR-509 from Stansted to Cork and KLM flight 1127 from Amsterdam to Cork have diverted to Shannon so far.

All passengers were deplaned and transported to their intended destination by coach.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Ireland for this Thursday.

The weather service is warning of strong and gusty south-westerly winds which could lead to difficult travelling conditions; debris or loose objects being displaced and some fallen branches or trees.

The warning will come into effect at midnight tonight and remain place until 6.00pm on Thursday.

Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow Rain Warning for seventeen counties including Clare.

Forecasters say we can expect rain with heavy downpours in places which could result in spot flooding; poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning will come into effect at 06:00am Thursday and remain in place until 3:00pm.
