Thursday – October 22nd
Bank Holiday Outlook
Once Storm Austen clears on Friday, there will be a brief drier interlude. However, conditions will become very unsettled over the weekend.
Another area of low pressure is forecast to track to the north of Ireland through Saturday and Sunday. This will bring a further spell of rain across the country with potential for windy conditions too.
As this is the Bank Holiday weekend there will be many events taking place around the country, with Halloween decorations and temporary structures in place, so we would advise that people keep an eye on our forecasts and warnings as there may indeed be more warnings issued for Saturday and Sunday.
We are also moving into a period of spring tides and combined with windy conditions, this may lead to coastal flooding in exposed low-lying areas.
Wednesday – October 21st
Met Éireann has upgraded its previous Status Yellow Rain Warning for Ireland to now include windy conditions.
Forecasters have now said that heavy rain associated with Storm Austen will spread eastwards across the country.
In addition, strong easterly winds will back northwesterly and strengthen further, especially in the south and southeast.
The potential impacts of this weather include:
- Difficult travelling conditions
- Localised flooding possible
- Outdoor events impacted
- Debris, loose objects displaced
- Some fallen trees, branches
The warning will take effect at 7.00pm on Thursday and remain in place until 10.00am on Friday.
Some neighbouring counties have already been place on Status Orange alert so a further update from Met Éireann on whether Clare will face the same upgrading is possible.
