Unique event to thank essential workers across Clare

Clare FM will broadcast a unique event to listeners and followers across the county and further afield and host a virtual concert across all their media platforms.
The special musical event this evening (Saturday May 23rd) will be a tribute and a thank you to all essential workers throughout the County and beyond for their huge contribution throughout the Covid 19 crisis.
The Station will also be joining forces with its sister station Tipp FM as well as online digital newspaper The Clare Herald, to host the event simply titled “Thank You” and ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to enjoy this exclusive performance.
The concert will be broadcast on air by both stations, with the public also having the opportunity to see the artists performing on the stations Facebook pages and on their websites. The programme will be transmitted on Saturday evening May 23rd at 6pm, for the first time ever.
Over ten well known Irish artists will be taking part, the line-up includes, Gavin James, Brian Kennedy, Phil Coulter, Luka Bloom, Mike Hanrahan, Darren Holden, Don Mescall, Maura O’Connell, Tommy Fleming, Joanie Madden and Don Stiffe.
As well as thanking essential workers across the Country and in particular the Midwest, it is also giving a platform to support Children’s Hospice Week and the vital work carried out by LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, by asking listeners across the country to donate €4 by texting LauraLynn to 50300. (texts cost €4 and LauraLynn will receive a minimum of €3.60)
Commenting on this unique event, the Stations General Manager, Susan Murphy said “We wanted to do something to acknowledge the amazing work being carried out right now by all our essential workers. Like a lot of ideas, this started out as a small kernel and then grew. When producer Padraic Flaherty began to contact the performers, the response was over-whelming and we want to thank them all sincerely for giving so freely of their time. We hope it will lift peoples spirits and believe it is a phenomenal line up of talent which covers all musical tastes”
The virtual concert, which is anticipated to run for just over sixty minutes can be heard on Clare FM and Tipp FM radio and watched on line at www.clare.fm, www.tippfm.com and www.clareherald.com and on the stations Facebook pages @clarefmradio, @TippFM and on twitter @ClareFM, @TippFM and @theclareherald.
Sweet gestures from public for Clean Ireland staff

Customer kindness, from bins decorated with homemade thank-you cards, to homemade cakes and boxes of chocolates left on them, will be one of the great positive take-aways for Clean Ireland Recycling staff from the COVID-19 crisis.
Drivers for the Mid-West based company have, in challenging times, had their spirits lifted by the generosity of customers across Limerick.
Expressing its thanks to customers for their kindness over recent weeks, the company said that the gestures have given staff a real lift.
“There’s a real sense that we are turning the corner now, that there is light at the end of the tunnel, we have become somewhat accustomed to COVID-19 lock-down but the early weeks were very difficult for everyone to adapt, including our staff,” said Michelle Nagle, Head of Administration & Customer Service.
“We are deemed an essential service and have been keeping the show on the road in what is a challenging time for everyone, including our staff. But we’ve been so heartened by the public reaction. Our team typically come and go without any fuss each day and are happy to do so but they’ve been stopped in their tracks at so many houses by gestures from customers.”
Ms Nagle said that the staff have appreciated all the gestures but the homemade cards by children have really caught their attention. “There’s been cakes left out, sweets, brownies and so much more but the homemade cards are brilliant. Children are going to great efforts to make these and it’s never happened before.
“There’s a lot of hardship for people during this time but there’s also an awful lot of good things happening and these gestures are an example of that. People are great and the thought really does count,” she added.
Ms Nagle also confirmed that the gestures had encouraged them to make a donation of 40 litres of sanitiser and 10 boxes of gloves to local nursing homes. “We had some sanitiser and gloves in stock but were ordering more for our staff due to the pandemic so we bought enough to enable us to donate to local nursing homes and community hospitals. It was a small gesture but we saw first-hand from our customers how small gestures to us mattered. We just look forward to the day when we are on the other side of this but not forgetting those gestures.”
The company said that they had to move and adapt quickly when the pandemic hit but they have settled into a manageable pattern. “We’ve a brilliant team here from the people in our offices and yards to the teams of drivers and helpers out collecting each day. Like every company, we’ve introduced a range of health and safety measures to ensure safe working environments, but we have managed the task and the key thing is that we have kept the show on the road. The service has been uninterrupted.”
“It’s a tough time for everyone, for people losing their jobs and for people losing a lot worse than that and our thoughts are with everyone at this time. We won’t forget how difficult this time has been but we will bring a lot of good memories from it as well.”
